Let's Talk! Send me an Email > Thick Mattresses & Top Sheets

When it comes to form follows function, why don't designers and manufacturers of bed linens realize that you can't tuck in the sides of flat sheets any more, with the mattresses so thick!! They need to make them wider, if they're going to sell thicker mattresses! Don't these people make their own beds??? Ever???

I'm not exactly sure why they are popular right now, though it does evoke Early American times when a higher bed avoided the drafts and colder air closer to the floor. I think that mattresses that are less that 18 inches thick are equally effective for their purpose -- sleeping. (You also don't need to be a mountain climber, nor do your pets.) If you do buy an extra thick matress, make sure you also think about extra width for mattress pads and duvets or bedspreads.

Speaking of mattresses, my Resource Guide will be up next week. In it is a great resouce for all the name brand mattresses at very good prices, but just in case, the information is:
